  • Twinlakes Trip 2025

    To refresh our annual treat day, this year we arranged for our KS2 children to go to Twinlakes for the day and our KS1 children got to have a fun-filled day on inflatables with a bouncy castle and even got an ice cream each from the ice cream van! It was a lovely day for all and was a great way to recognise the hard work throughout the year of all our pupils. Next year KS1 children will be able to enjoy a trip out for their treat day and the cycle will alternate thereon. Thank you to all our pupils and staff for their continuous hard work over the year, the summer break is fast approaching for a relax and rejuvenate!

  • PTA Support

    Thank you to Laura from the PTA for kindly planting new flowers and keeping them watered and well looked after. They have made all the difference to the appearance of the school, especially the first sight as pupils, parents, staff and visitors enter the school from our main Firfield Avenue entrance. Thank you to our caretakers too for putting them up and keeping them watered too.

  • Breaston in Bloom - Sawley Road

    Our Sawley Road rockery area is looking beautiful having had the trees cut back and the area kept maintained. A big thank you always to Breaston in Bloom and particularly Esther who is has and always is committed to keeping our outdoor areas so lovely. Thank you to Poplar Trees for their services regarding the pruning and cutting back of the trees to ensure that the much needed rainwater reaches the area.

  • VE Celebrations

    We celebrated the VE Anniversary on Friday 9th May as a school and the children all worked away tirelessly creating spectacular cakes and bakes to enter into the school bake off. Here are some of the marvellous creations:

    A big thank you to Mr Thurgood for all his hard work in making the day so lovely for all children, staff and parents. It was lovely to hear all about their ancestory regarding involvement with the war, thank you to families for sharing pieces of their treasured family history.

  • School Site Projects

    This Easter Holiday, several projects have taken place to ensure the continual improvement of our school site and the provision we offer all our children. The works included:

    • Two new additional cabins 
    • New blinds throughout the whole of the Old School Building
    • Scooter and Cycle Pods fitted, kindly funded by the PTA 
    • Solar panels fitted as part of our sustainability commitment
    • Continuation of the roof works across the Old School Building

    Thank you to all contractors involved and we look forward to using our new cabins and seeing the use of the Scooter and Cycle Pods.

  • Trent College Short Story Competition

    Yesterday, Ewan and Alistair had a wonderful time at Trent College having been successfully shortlisted for the writing competition.

    Both boys had their stories read aloud by the scholars meaning that they had been deservedly further shortlisted from 30, down to 15….

    The winner was announced and Ewan was successful. Of all of the schools in the local area, and amongst hundreds of the stories submitted, Ewan won!!!! 🥇

  • Sustainable Steps - Battery Recycling

    Firfield Primary School have signed up to the Battrecycle initiative to ensure all used batteries at school are recycling correctly and have chosen this company as the recycled batteries then raise funds for charities too. Here is a little about the company and what our school's used batteries do once they have left us.

  • Prem Aware Award Accreditation

    We are proud to announce that after completing whole-school training to raise awareness of prematurity, we are officially the first school in Derbyshire to be accredited with the Prem Aware award. We believe this is a really significant and important topic and recognise that many of our families have experience of pre-term birth and neonatal care. With this training, we now have a greater awareness and knowledge of the potential impact this can have on our young people and their families, meaning early support strategies can be put in place.

  • PTA Christmas Fair 2024

    Thank you to everyone for organising and attending this year's PTA Christmas Fair. It was a great success and once again, Santa was busy at work with his elves in his grotto. It was lovely to see so many pupils, their families and friends and the PTA raised lots of money for the school. Thank you to parents and the local community for so many generous raffle prize donations. We wish all our pupils and families a safe and happy christmas.

  • Bikeability Session

    Last week year 5 pupils got involved in Bikeability where they develop their cycling skills and learn how to be safe whilst cycling around the local area. The children loved their session, and it was great to see them all go out around the local area. A big thank you to Vicky Brierley and the rest of the team from Erewash School Sport Partnership for teaching our children the rules of the road and ensuring they are safe whilst on their bikes.

  • PTA Christmas Fair 2024

    This year's Christmas Fair will be on Friday 13th December from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. We hope to see as many of you as possible there for some festive fun with lots of prizes to be won all in aid of raising money for the school!

  • Children In Need Fundraising 2024

    Thank you to all staff, pupils and parents for making this year's Children in Need fundraising as successful as it was! A special thank you to Mrs Shepherd for organising the afternoon stalls where pupils showed off their entrepreneurial skills and sold their own creations from bakes to glitter tattoos. 

    In total, the school raised a phenomenal £1,646.37. Well done!
