On Thursday 5th October, an extremely enthusiastic group of children attended their first Cross Country competition at Wilsthorpe School. Pupils were chosen based on teacher reference and strength and stamina during PE lessons.
With a spring in their step and hope in their hearts, pupils did themselves and the school extremely proud as they gave their all in the competition.
The grassy track varied in length, depending on the age of competitors with Year 1/2 running a ¼ mile course; Year 3/4 tackling ½ mile and Year 5/6 going the full distance at 1 whole mile!

The first race was the Year 5/6 tiring, 1 mile slog. Boys and girls raced together to give individual and team placings. Once this had been done, it was time for the Year 3/4s, swiftly followed by Key Stage 1.
Every Firfield competitor gave 100%. However, stand-out performers included Isla L and Isabelle S who placed an incredible 3rd in respective KS2 races. Jamie R (Year 4) also put out an amazing performance to finish in the top 5, giving us a Bronze medal in the overall team race. Not to mention stunning efforts from our Key Stage 1 competitors who did the school proud.
Overall, a great enthusiasm and effort shown by all and wonderful, resilient attitudes meant that Firfield were represented with a real sense of passion and pride.
