The club has been ran by our School Council, a big well done and thank you to all our amazing School Council pupils for making the club such a great success and being such amazing role models to all our other children. All pupils had a fantastic time, with DJ Daniel at the party, Mr Thurgood on the BBQ, a very large domino order and even an icecream van on site! Thank you to all who helped to organise the party and to the year 6 pupils for being so well behaved whilst still enjoying themselves and having a great time.

It was a lovely day for all and was a great way to recognise the hard work throughout the year of all our pupils. Next year KS1 children will be able to enjoy a trip out for their treat day and the cycle will alternate thereon. Thank you to all our pupils and staff for their continuous hard work over the year, the summer break is fast approaching for a relax and rejuvenate!

The works included:

  • Two new additional cabins 
  • New blinds throughout the whole of the Old School Building
  • Scooter and Cycle Pods fitted, kindly funded by the PTA 
  • Solar panels fitted as part of our sustainability commitment
  • Continuation of the roof works across the Old School Building

Thank you to all contractors involved and we look forward to using our new cabins and seeing the use of the Scooter and Cycle Pods.

Both boys had their stories read aloud by the scholars meaning that they had been deservedly further shortlisted from 30, down to 15….

The winner was announced and Ewan was successful. Of all of the schools in the local area, and amongst hundreds of the stories submitted, Ewan won!!!! 🥇

We believe this is a really significant and important topic and recognise that many of our families have experience of pre-term birth and neonatal care. With this training, we now have a greater awareness and knowledge of the potential impact this can have on our young people and their families, meaning early support strategies can be put in place.

It was lovely to see so many pupils, their families and friends and the PTA raised lots of money for the school. The children loved their session, and it was great to see them all go out around the local area. A big thank you to Vicky Brierley and the rest of the team from Erewash School Sport Partnership for teaching our children the rules of the road and ensuring they are safe whilst on their bikes.

In total, the school raised a phenomenal £1,646.37. Well done!

On Friday 8th November 2024 the children from year 6 went on a trip to London and visited the Houses of Parliament. As part of their visit, the children split off into several groups and were given a guided tour around the Houses of Parliament including going into the House of Commons and Westminster Hall. There was then a workshop for the children that was enjoyed by all. The children represented the school excellently and behaved so well throughout the day, even with such a lengthy time spent travelling! Well done to the year 6 pupils and a big thank you to Mr Thurgood for organising the trip and to the staff and parent helpers who made the day a great success too.

With a few final touches to go, the Reading Lodge will be officially opened in February with a visit from a special guest! We love that this new dedicated library area will encourage and inspire our young people to find or develop their love of reading. A big well done to all involved in getting this project to turn into a reality; a special thank you to the team at Cosy Garden Rooms, the PTA, Miss Tomlinson and MOTO Foundation.

Christmas is here! The PTA and school are hosting the annual Christmas Fair, it will take place this Friday 1st December 2023 between 5pm to 7pm. There are lots of fun activities for all the family including festive games, tombola, glitter tattoos and even some nice drinks for the adults. The raffle has lots of great prizes to be won. New for 2023 is Story Time with Santa in the grotto (taking place in the new reading lodge) and the Bubble House. 

Entry to the fair is free. We hope to see you all on Friday!

All pupils and staff at Firfield got stuck into Children in Need, the whole school came together on the playground to set up stalls to raise money for charity. Pupils led their own stalls with some selling bakes, books and small toys and others selling services such as glitter tattoos and hair spray painting. It was lovely to see some of our older children supporting younger pupils. Thank you to all the staff and parents for helping put together a fantastic afternoon.

Pupils were split into groups and enjoyed lots of different activities during their visit. Pupils were put through their paces and enjoyed activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, rope walking and team building exercises. Well done to all pupils - your determination and teamwork skills shone threw!

Thank you to Severn Trent for coming out to our school to raise awareness amongst our pupils.

Pupils and staff all had an excellent time and sang their hearts out to all the Young Voices songs they had been practising over the past few months at Glee Club. It was a brilliant day for all, and even had special guest Heather Small performing at the show.

In the afternoon, students showcased their enterprise skills by selling items and services to raise money for Children in Need. There was a wide variety of items and services including child-friendly spray painting of hair and faux tattoos! Well done to all our students here at Firfield Primary School.
